Tommaso Fiscaletti (1981) visual artist/photographer, originally from Pesaro (Italy),

he is based in Cape Town (SA) since 2013. His work is focused on existential reflections like the human awareness of the universe, the passing of time and human relations. An essential part of his relationship with the image is based on the attempt of measuring fiction and reality.

He received several awards since 2004, it has been published in magazines and books, and has been exhibited in private galleries and public spaces such as Museo Santa Maria Della Scala in Siena, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Guarene, the IZIKO South African Museum in Cape Town.

In 2016, collaborating with Nic Grobler, he began to work on a long-term project “Hemelliggaam or The Attempt To Be Here Now” a visual archive comprising photographs, video and installations, exploring the existential aspects of the human-environment-science relationship. The project is constantly moving between the reality of important scientific sites (such as the South African Large Telescope in Sutherland and the Square Kilometre Array in Carnarvon) and the imaginative fragments of old Afrikaans science fiction novels.

Tommaso has also held workshops and taught photography at IED (European Design Institute) in Milan; he is currently teaching at Creative Academy in Cape Town.
